A film about the legacy of John Wesley Donaldson

39 Seconds

39 Seconds is a film about the legacy of John Wesley Donaldson. The first day he stepped on the mound this legendary pitcher began striking out batters. In his first known game he broke his catchers hands with a heater.

John Donaldson played baseball for a living. He traveled the rails and back roads of America from 1908-1940 as a player and even more as the first black scout in major league baseball history from 1949-1953.

John Donaldson’s legacy was ignored and forgotten.

39 Seconds - John Donaldson

Donaldson amassed one of the most influential careers baseball has ever known. His legacy was built one diamond at a time far away from the organized leagues where the color line was strictly enforced. He is known to have won over 400 games and struck out over 5,000 batters in over 550 cities across North America.

39 Seconds will tell John Donaldson’s story. The film will reveal the most under appreciated careers in the history of American sports.
