#Spotlight – This week we continue our celebration of Black History Month. Today is our tribute the greatness of the Negro Leagues players who would go on to become members of the Baseball Hall of Fame – Part I.

Third in 1971 is Satchel Paige - https://baseballhall.org/hall-of-famers/paige-satchel who according to his MLB Hall of Fame DYK - THAT ON AUG. 20, 1948, A 42-YEAR-OLD SATCHEL PAIGE PITCHED THE INDIANS TO A 1-0 VICTORY OVER THE WHITE SOX IN FRONT OF 78,382 FANS, A NIGHT-GAME ATTENDANCE RECORD THAT STILL STANDS?
Next in 1972 is Josh Gibson and Buck Leonard – the first players inducted that only played in the Negro Leagues - https://baseballhall.org/hall-of-famers/gibson-josh and https://baseballhall.org/hall-of-famers/leonard-buck according to their MLB Hall of Fame DYK - THAT JOSH GIBSON GOT HIS START WITH HOMESTEAD OF THE NEGRO NATIONAL LEAGUE IN JULY OF 1930 WHEN HE CAME OUT OF THE STANDS TO REPLACE THE GRAYS' INJURED CATCHER? And THAT BUCK LEONARD EARNED HIS HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA WHEN HE WAS 52 BECAUSE HIS HOMETOWN OF ROCKY MOUNT, N.C., DID NOT HAVE A HIGH SCHOOL FOR AFRICAN-AMERICANS WHEN HE GREW UP?
Next in 1973 is Monte Irvin – https://baseballhall.org/hall-of-famers/irvin-monte who according to his MLB Hall of Fame DYK - THAT AS A TEENAGER, MONTE IRVIN SET A NEW JERSEY HIGH SCHOOL RECORD FOR THROWING THE JAVELIN?
