#Spotlight - Women's History Month -Billie Jean King
#Spotlight – This week we celebrate Women’s History Month, including the amazing accomplishments and firsts from many women in sports history. Today’s tribute is to Billie Jean King, winner of 39 Grand Slam titles in Tennis including 12 singles titles, 16 doubles titles and 11 mixed doubles titles.
Billie Jean was the founder of the Women’s Tennis Association and the Women’s Sports Foundation.
In 2013 PBS would do an American Masters episode on Billie Jean – this section would show Ilana Kloss and Valerie Jarrett discussing Billie Jean King’s legacy and the founding of the Women’s Sports Foundation.
In 1974, Billie Jean co-founded the World Team Tennis and would run the league and play for the Philadelphia Freedoms.
In August 2009, Billie Jean would be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Barack Obama.
